After uninstalling all ATI software, I tried the new modder. This time the installation worked perfectly - I did not have to install the modded driver manually anymore.
But I still have some problems:
1) The internal display does not appear in the device manager until I close the lid for 10 seconds. Therefore, if I boot my notebook without external display, the internal display turns off when the login screen should appear (until I close the lid). And if I boot with an external display, only the external display works (until I close the lid). The external display appears in the device manager from beginning.
So after closing the lid everything works fine - but the primary display is set to the external one. This is where the second problem comes up:
2) With the modded 7.4 I am not able to set the primary display to the internal one. This worked with the unmodded 7.4 driver (I installed that driver using the "let me pick from a list" feature. I pointed to the (unmodded) ATI support folder and installed one of the many X700 (not mobility) devices that were listed).

Well, I was using Catalyst 7.4 modded with the older version modder and I needed Powerstrip to enable 1280x800 resolution on my Mobility Radeon 9700, so I used System Restore to go back to a configuration before I installed Catalyst and used the new mod utility. Now I get 1280x800 succesfully without any extra tools, but I'm having a similar problem as the one quoted above:
If I start the computer (from OFF mode, sleep or hybernation) with a external display connected, I can ONLY use the external display. I went to Catalyst and saw that it only detects the external display. Putting the PC in Sleep, unplugging the CRT and waking up again leaves me with no display until I press ENTER on the "choose user" screen and then I can use the internal LCD panel normally and plug the external CRT again. I had a similar problem using the Windows default drivers for my card, so I guess it's not related to the mod utility, but just wanted to comment on that.

Yes, my first problem is not related to the modder. I've tried many different drivers and all had the same problem.
But my hope was that a modded driver could solve this problem....
ronaldace, was your external display connected during the installation of vista? (mine was). I'm not sure if that is the reason for this problem. And Have you ever tried to close the lid for more than 10 seconds instead of the sleep/unplug procedure? (I've disabled shutting down or going to sleep when closing the lid).

Spike - I just sent the dxdiag dump for Mobility Radeon 9200 to info@driverheaven.net. Sorry for not responding sooner and thanks for looking into the older cards for all of us!

I'm not completelly sure if I had the CRT connected while installing Vista, but surely it was because I used to have it connected all the time until this problem started showing up.
As for closing the lid for 10 seconds, I'm not sure the exact method you followed. What I did was unplug the external display, close the lid, wait 10 seconds and open the lid again, but that did nothing at all (I also have Vista configured so it does nothing when I close the lid). Anyway, after this, I plugged the external display, and since I left Catalyst open in Displays Manager, I could see it detected it had no displays connected until a moment later when it detected the external one, without any mention of the internal display.... So I guess this method won't work for me, unless you do anything different I can try.
Also, anohter thing: If I'm working with the internal display, set the computer to sleep and wake it up with the external display connected, the login screen does show up in the internal display for a second or so until the LCD turns off and the external display turns on. So, it seems as if it really knows the internal display is there somehow...
EDIT: After trying the 10 second thing with no luck, I finally put the laptop on sleep, unplugged the external display and woke it up. Now, Catalyst's Displays Manager shows only my internal LCD but with a "X" over it, as if it couldn't detect it was there. Also, on control panel I don't see any "Monitors" entry, but I can change the LCD's resolution through Windows or Catalyst. Definitelly looks like something's messed up in Vista or in the drivers

nahdd123 what do you mean? it never supported that card. This program is not the same as DHModTool. I wrote DH Mobility Modder.NET from scratch.

THanks for the update, I was able to get the drivers installed and running.
Unfortuately, it didn't fix the graphical errors that I have been having. I'm wondering if it is an overheating issue...
Anyhow, keep up the great work!

Just trying this out for the first time and it seems to not like my Dell Inspiron 6000.
It has the 128MB version of the Radeon X300 in it.
If I install the driver manually it works, but then I still can't get it to install the CCC
Edit - So I just created a frankeninstall using the 7.2 CCC & it seems to work just fine.
I truly wish laptop manufacturers would get their thumbs outta their asses and allow ATi/AMD to just certify the Catalyst drivers for their laptops.
I never had any issues with the Cat's on this laptop when ATi had the 7.1 & 7.2's out.
I hate having to use "hacked" stuff *sighs*

Drach it could be overheating. Make sure that there is enough space around it and you can also try putting something below it at the back so there can be some airflow under it.
shanok did you install MSXML 4.0? if not then the msi files did not get modded. Can you check if the inf file and most of the msi file got modded?

No joy with new modder?
many thanks for time and effort with mod tool.
I'm having problems with the 7.4's and my IBM T41p and FireGL T2.
Ran modder tool successfully against 7.4 extracted folders. Inf was updated but when running setup no drivers or CCC are installed? It appears that the mod tool did not work as I get the same affect trying to run the 7.4 without modding?
BTW, I can use 7.1's esaily but can't seem to get 7.4's on at all. I've unistalled all ATI drivers and tried to go to 7.4 immediately, no joy. I've uninstalled all ati drivers and successfully installed the 7.1's but still no joy with the 7.4's on top. Either approach leaves me with the system saying drivers are up to date, 7.1 to 7.4 or installation successful but no driversor ccc, 7.4 clean.
Any ideas?

Will previous version work or should we wait for an update?

Hi,
the file is updated, just redownload the file from the website. It has the Out of Range exception fixed. If you look in the about windows it says 0.7.2.0. So when you have that error please redownload the program.

Does this tool work with XP? I have a FireGL V5200 and the XP DH Mod tool that I found only supports the V5100.
Edit: Guess it doesn't work on XP.

A2500d
Hello,
I am from the Netherlands so excuse me for my English.
I have an ASUS A2500D notebook with a mobility radeon 9600.
i have tried the mobility modder, now i can install the driver from ati/amd but the drivers are still not recognised in windows VISTA.
I know a few more people with an a2d notebook wheir it doesn't work, so i am not the only one.
Maybey ASUS mobility is not supported??
Is it possible to support the asus a2500d in a future release of your program??
