DH Mobility Modder & Fuzzy External Display?

Hi all,

This is my first time posting on this forum, but so far I've found the site very useful.

I have a new Dell e1505 running Windows Vista Ultimate with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 card in it. Vista doesn't like video cards, so I try to keep the most current drivers available but the OEM drivers are not up to par yet. I attempted using Mobility Modder to install the Catalyst 7.4 utility and drivers.

It seemed to mod fine and it installed okay but I am having a weird issue with my external LCD. On my laptop's display, the image looks nice and clear, but when I use my BenQ FP202W 20.1" widescreen LCD as my main monitor (over VGA), everything on the screen becomes fuzzy. My desktop is extended to the right onto my notebook's lcd and that portion of the desktop still looks great, but the external LCD has readable text but there is a slight blur to everything that is displayed. I tried adjusting the resolution and redetecting the displays etc etc, but I am still having the problem.

I would hate to roll back to 7.2 so I would greatly appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks,

Braden

The new beta is comming and that has more resolutions in it, so maybe the problem is in that.

I hope that helps. My monitor is running at 1600x1050 which I believe is a pretty common widescreen resolution. Also, I hooked up my notebook to my 720P 37" lcd tv via vga and it had no problems looking blurry at its native resolution, so, hmm.

Okay, so weird fix. I came into work today and the same issue was happening. I once again went to try and adjust the resolution on the monitor but I noticed that there was a position on the slider for a higher resolution (not supported by my monitor), I tried sliding it up and of course, the monitor couldn't handle it, so I did not accept the settings, but when it re-adjusted to 1600x1050 it was no longer having the blurry issue. Weird, didn't do that when going from lower res to higher, just from higher to lower.

Saw that the updated version is out, do you think I should bother re-installing? I don't think there were any issues with the Mobility X1400 but if I get better performance then great.

Anyway, hope this helps someone in the future.

The only new things are some more resolutions and chipsets and some bug fiexes in the program. But it isnstalled ok by you so it is not needed. You could try it again when Catalyst 7.5 comes out.
