Currently using the SMP client and folding for DH (just started today). But I wish the latest ATI drivers from Omega worked with the GPU client but they don't.. I'll have to wait for the next drivers and see if they work. The GPU client is so much faster than my Dual Core Athlon 64 X2 4200+....

I have in the past, when my OS was XP, but I havn't since upgrading to Vista, and getting a new graphics card . but I do fold for united devices (grid.org), and have since 2001, so I don't think that I will be switching again.

I'm still running the CPU client on 2 machines since the last contest. I'll have to give the SMP client a run, but I'm going to be staying away from the GPU client this time. While it works with Cat 7.2, it only does so on one GPU, and frankly that's just too much of a load on one GPU to justify running the client on it.

Pretty much my problem. It's alright when I'm listening to music, but my PC is in my room, so going to bed and having my fans all revved up all night would be a problem.

I genuinely tried it when the GPU client came out as I do have the power and my PC is on 95% of the time. Sadly its interference with my CF setup made it just too much hassle. I plan on building up a new rig in the near future and will pass this one on to my missus. Hers will be parted out to make a HTPC/Server so I will give it another shot with it.

Stanford releases any information on what folding has accomplished on their site HERE, as well as links to the research papers published and the thesis' on them too. Surprisingly good read.

Heat issues

I used to but I have a small, hot room and it was just too much stress on te computer in my opinion. I also blame it on blowing through two power supplies.....only cuz it hasnt happened since. I know that doesnt make much sence but..........im not going to risk it further.

Used to, but with the power bill rate hikes over the last couple of years in our area prevents me from keeping my computers running 24/7.

I may try again during the summer when there are no heating costs.

Nah man. Just run the CPU client. All the clients (in their default config) will process WUs when the CPU is idle. If you are using the CPU for something, like gaming, editing, processing, then the client won't process. Mind you, if you are doing any of the above it's still recommend that you shutdown the client... just incase.

Right now I have the client on my main machine at home, which is on 24/7, and is used by the whole family for pretty much everything but gaming. The only time I shut the client down on that one is when I'm compressing or editing video/pictures. At the store I have it on one machine which is pretty much the same in that it's on 24/7, and I use that as my repair machine (for dumping hard drives to, downloading drivers, and so fourth). In a minute I'll be putting the client onto this machine too which is again the same setup, 24/7, and it's primarily used as my accounting/sales machine. The only instance I've found that the CPU client has interferred with something is on my Toshiba Tecra S2 laptop. With the client running on that machine the CPU fan runs at full speed all the time.
