eh - 'megs' and 'gigs' are easier to vocalize that 'megabytes' and gigabytes' respectively. I doubt these will go away (intil its 'tubs' - for Tera-bytes or something) - it'll grow on you after you say the long versions over and over and over and over and over again and again and again....

In forums (typed out) its KB, MB, GB etc... but yes - to type 'megs' or 'gigs' - is a source of potential confusion in a medium thats easy for confusion to begin with. So I will agree is not smart.

'I got 3 gigs' - 'really - are you a rock star now?'
'Silly customer/technician/pc user - gigs are for musicians'.
