Low frame rates with Vista

I am assuming people with Nvidia cards are still experiencing low frame rates, even with the new Nvidia drivers and chipset drivers, compared to XP? I am losing 12 frames with Vista compared to XP.

That seems to be the case for a bunch of folks. I'd just stick with XP for as long as you can. Nvidia will get it figured out eventually. Too bad Microsoft isn't really interested in helping OpenGL get optimized.

They don't mind making DirectX appear to be better than OpenGL mind you, but I think they care more about market domination and killing off OpenGL than they do about actually helping gamers.

They want to look like they care cause they want the cash that gamers can give to the Vista cause, but it's kinda like a girl pretending to be interested in you so you will be a dork and end up doing all her homework for her and really getting nothing in return...

So it is not ATI's and NVidia's fault that after so many months they do not have non beta drivers for their products?

Microsoft gave preferential treatment to ATI, since they are their Xbox 360 GPU partner.

The undermining of the OpenGL driver in Vista, forcing it to be run in a DirectX wrapper by default, is a blow to Nvidia - perhaps a targeted blow. The original Xbox lawsuit that Microsoft filed against Nvidia and led to their split and Microsoft going with ATI instead, may well have had something to do with it.

If you read the interview with the Nvidia dude that they did on FiringSquad, he intimates that it is Microsoft holding things up.

Seems pretty clear to me.

Then again, I don't trust Microsoft as far as a dead fly can spit, so...

While Opengl on ATI is lower, i'm seeing on average from 3 to 7 or better % boosts in some D3D games. Hell even halo combat evolved runs beautifully under vista (better then XP).

There are only a few D3D games thus far where there is a serious impact on D3D performance, but i would guess it'll be resolved with future driver updates
