AIW 9000 Compact/ lost controller
As someone who knows little about these things, maybe you can help. The AIW 9000 came standard with Dells, so it's not listed on any ATI support site, and Dell has done squat at updating. In any event, I loaded some omega drivers so I could play Second Life; This worked, but somehow the Rage Theater Video controller has disappeared and the TV and capture won't work. There is an unknown device called "media" that tries to load the driver but then there's a message about the name already being used by a service. How do I install what I need for this out of date card? Especially without messing up the omega drivers so I can still play Second Life?

I had already tried that, but tried it again; downloaded the WDM drivers, installed them, rebooted, but still have an unknown device instead of the WDM Rage Theater Video; I think the other controllers are there. Hence, can't get the TV to work. Really getting frustrated; didn't have this problem until I installed the Omega drivers; the TV function worked fine.
Addendum: as in the release notes, I also uninstalled all the WDM controllers and reinstalled the WDM drivers without restarting. I get a message saying there was a problem with a device called "media", which apparently is the Rage Video controller. I don't understand the message: "The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name". it's almost as if the fact that it's named "media" interferes with finding the drivers. HEELLLLLPPPP.....

You may need to use Driver Cleaner then inbetween your installs... I believe that may solve it.
Just uninstall everything, run driver cleaner, then try installing the WDM Drivers/Omegas/whatever you want

When you say "uninstall everything", can you be more specific? I did "uninstall" each of the video and audio components, then installed the WDM drivers. Is that what you mean, or do I need to actually uninstall the display adapter, the card....?

Not physically no.
Go into add remove programs and make sure anything to do with ATI is removed (MMC and all, drivers, CCC etc).
Then run driver cleaner in safe mode.
Then install.
Usually that's the only way to make sure you're not getting leftover crap interfering (registry keys and whatnot) short of a reformat.

OK....things still not quite right. I did as you said, uninstalled everything, ran cleaner, went to registry and manually removed stuff as well. I then installed the original drivers. All the controllers were there, and the TV tuner and capture worked. However, I still couldn't run Second Life. At that point I installed MMC 9.0....still couldn't run SL. The ONLY way I can run SL is by installing the Omega drivers.....but when I do, all the drivers for the controllers (Rage Theater Audio, Rage Theater Video, etc.) cannot be installed during booting and I end up with a bunch of yellow exclamation point devices. I tried installing just the WDM set, but that doesn't help either. It appears that I get the choice of playing SL, or having my AIW actually work. Being really a newbie I"m not sure why these controller/drivers are removed by installing the Omega display adapter drivers, or how to fix the problem either.....

That could very well be an anomaly with the Omega drivers.
Have you tried running stock Catalyst drivers on your card (which should work with both Second Life and the WDM drivers should install), because the stock drivers should work on your card.
Give the 7.1 series a shot. It sounds to me like the Omega's just don't play nice with the AiW's anymore.

I finally got a response from the ticket I left with ATI. This is their response:
WDM drivers can be downloaded seperately, but we do not recommend mixing the WDM drivers with different versions of the drivers. Especially not if you have 3rd party OMEGA drivers.
For your product, I would recommend Catalyst 6.2 and Multimedia Center 9.06.1 as this is the best and most stable combination of driver and multimedia center to use.
Installation:
Please install Catalyst 6.2 bundle (Ensure that you install it in the order shown)
-go to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
-select your operating system
-select All In Wonder
-select the product you have and click on go
-scroll down and under the additional links section, select "Previous Drivers and Software"
-select Catalyst 6.2
-download and install the "Display driver, Catalyst Control Center, and WDM integrated driver" in the order listed
*do not select the Multimedia Center*
2) Please install the Multimedia Center 9.06.1 bundle
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/common/mmc9-06.html
-there will be 3 downloads here
-download all 3, and install it in the order show below:
1. DAO/MDAC (mmc-9-1-0-0-dao-mdac.exe)
2. DVD Decoder (atiCDwiz.exe)
3. Multimedia Center (9-06-1_mmc_enu.exe)
So I guess I'll give it a try...but it's an earlier set, so I don't know if it will work with SL or not.....

Of course ATI is going to blame the Omega's for the problem...

Well, I went through exactly what they recommended. Everything works fine without the Omega drivers....but I can't run Second Life. Clearly the AIW driver set will not run SL without the Omegas, and the Omegas mess up the utility of the AIW card in terms of capture and TV viewing. I suppose I could try another Omega set and hope it doesn't erase the controller drivers as the version I'm using does....
