Problem uploading documents

I do not have Microsoft Word, and have been using a program, Open Office. It works almost identical to word. The problem I am having--- My wife typed up a nice resume to post for jobs online. Most uploading sites require the documents to be in .doc or .txt form. When uploading, it fails and will not accept. I think the form is .odt which I never heard of. I am having difficulty figuring out how to change it to an acceptable form.

Is there somebody that can shed some light on this issue please?

Thanks

System Specs

In Open Office, open the file, the file > save as. Change the file type to .doc, then inspect the document to make sure the formatting is still correct.

Well..... That was easy. Thanks a lot. Never even crossed my mind to hit the drop down menu on "save as". Worked fine.
