Death penalty suspended because its unsafe!

Give me a break.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061216/...ns_suspended_9

The government can't even kill your correctly, so rather than have a few scumbags feel uncomfortable while they are put to death, we have to convene a committee to study how to kill them in the most humane way possible.

Now that's cruel and unusual to the taxpayers.

So is keeping over 2 million people in prison.

On topic though, it's up to each country to deal with their own death penalty. I imagine the US will get rid of it eventually, it might take them a while, but they'll likely manage it far sooner than countries such as Saudi Arabia, who still insist on lopping off peoples' hands for robbery.

My problem with the death penalty is not for the most part with people who don't deserve to be alive anymore, but rather with innocent people who are wrongly convicted, and with the death penalty being used as a form of vengence against convicts.

I agree with you, I think we would need major reform to our legal system and the death penalty should be those who have earned the sentence or greater than I listed beyond any doubt. Like DNA, several eye witnesses, and such. The way our legal system is based is that we would rather let some guilty ccriminals go free instead of send an innocent one to prison. Some do slip through the cracks though. Maybe the Judge and warden of each major max security prison should go through the records of all of their inmates and do some house cleaning.

I think its very hard to find the line (legally) between the guilty and the innocent.

We live in a country where - dare I say it, yes, even convicts have rights.
Like it or not - its part of what makes our country great. A country where (theoretically) NOTHING can completely strip anyone of their basic human rights - not even a sentence of death.

After further discovery of this issue - it seems like the real problem is how few people are properly trained to administer a lethal injection. Conceptually, the task is not too hard - but I can imagine how few people get such medical training - to kill some one - It makes sense that many would have problems with taking the post medical training 'hypocritical oath' - and then go work for the penitentiary system using their knowledge to not heal - but legally kill. Id also imagine this job requires very specific individuals who wouldn't let such a job 'get to them' - now if they have any motor control abilities, or common sense is yet another hiring factor for such positions. So, it actually adds up to a problem that was bound to happen.

Also, its NOT just for the convicts 'well being' being considered... There are the witnesses who have to watch something that isn't too pleasing to begin with - then factor in incompetence botching the task...I can see that as disturbing to the administers and witnesses as well. So its not ALL JUST for a convicts rights driving the investigation.

Thank goodness for the media's ability to oversimplify issues.

The rights given by our government are not human rights, they are American rights.
